Premier League outfits Newcastle United have reportedly identified Chelsea full-back, Marcos Alonso, as a surprise transfer target this summer.
Despite the Magpies are in the bottom half of the Premier League table, a potential takeover by a Saudi Arabia-based consortium has led to rumours regarding high-profile names joining them during the next window.
According to Mirror, that has resulted in Newcastle United’s expressing a desire to secure contact for Marcos Alonso.
With the West London club looking to be on the verge to secure the services of Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, club officials will inevitably look to part ways with either Emerson Palmieri or Marcos Alonso.
The report claims that the Magpies would be willing to spend around £26m on the Spaniard, who has managed to found back of the net four times and provided two assists from just 11 Premier League games this campaign before it has been suspended.
The 29-year-old full-back is no stranger to the North-East having previously had a loan spell at Sunderland back in 2014.
Since the arrival of Frank Lampard Alonso has struggled to cement a place in the starting XI as English manager preferred Emerson Palmieri and Reece James ahead of him.
