Chelsea set to miss out signing of highly-rated English playmaker

Manchester United head-coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims that he’s confident Angel Gomes is ‘not too far away’ from signing a new deal amid interest from direct Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Though the 19-year-old Gomes is regarded as one of the finest talents to emerge from the Red Devils academy for a number of years, the playmakers future has been up in the air with his current contract set to expire in July.

Recent reports claimed that the Red Devils were making slow but steady progress in their talks with Angel Gomes after offering the starlet wages of £25,000 per week to stay at Old Trafford

And Solskjaer is hopeful that the England U-20 side will snub strong interest from the likes of Barcelone and Chelsea.

‘He’s a top, top kid that we’ve had in the club for so many years and we’ve offered him a deal,’ Solskjaer said at his press conference on Thursday ahead of United’s trip to Tottenham.

‘Hopefully he will take that.

‘From from what I understand it’s not too far away. If not, we’ll wish him all the best.’

Gomes became the youngest player to play in the Red Devils first-team squad since Duncan Edwards when he made his debut against Crystal Palace three years ago.

However, the England Under-20 international has failed to cement a place in the starting XI.
