Noel Whelan believes that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has already made an approach for Chelsea star Willian on a free this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Leeds United striker suggested that the possibility of the Brazilian making the move across London in the summer wasn’t out of the realms of reality.
The Sun report that the star would be keen on a reunion with his former boss at the end of the term, with his current deal at the Blues set to expire.
With the end of the term edging ever closer, Whelan believes that Jose will already have set the wheels in motion over a possible switch.
“Every club wants quality players – he is a quality player and they’re a big club,” Noel told Football Insider.
“He’ll be available on a free at the end of the season. You can’t sign a pre-contract yet, but you can approach a player – I’m sure Mourinho has already done that, to be quite honest with you.
“He likes the player, he’s got loads of talent. Whether or not the player would want to go from Chelsea remains to be seen, but I don’t see why not. I don’t think Chelsea would begrudge him going to Tottenham.”
He has been a regular feature for Frank Lampard’s side so far this term, making 32 appearances across all competitions.
Willian will be free to leave the club at the end of the current season if he does not agree to a new contract at Stamford Bridge.
