Chelsea told to make approach for PSG legendary forward

Joe Cole has urged Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to secure the services of PSG superstar Edinson Cavani before the end of the January transfer window.

Uruguay international forward is set to depart from Ligue 1 defending champions PSG either this month after his contract expires in the summer and has emerged as a target for top teams in the Premier League including Man Utd and Chelsea.

The 32-year-old striker has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe as he has managed to found back of the net 198 times in 292 appearances in the French top-tier.

Frank Lampard is believed to be keen on welcoming Cavani with open arms at Stamford Bridge before the end of the January transfer window and Cole says it would be an ‘unbelievable’ to see the Uruguay international making switch to the English top-tier.

‘Chelsea only got the transfer ban lifted in December but I think Roman’s pockets might be burning a bit,’ former Chelsea and England midfielder Cole told BT Sport.

‘He will want to spend some money. But it’s important that you get the right players. Who’s available in January?

‘There’s talk of Cavani. I think if you can get him through the door that would be unbelievable.

‘If Frank takes this Chelsea team to fourth in his first opportunity in the Premier League then that’s an unbelievable job.

‘If you can get the right player, sure, but there’s no need to panic because the lads are doing great.’
