Premier League giants Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for CSKA Moscow forward Fedor Chalov if they cannot strike a contract with Lyon for Moussa Dembele.
The former Fulham and Celtic forward has found back of the net 10 times for the French side this campaign, and the West London club are believed to view him as a top transfer target in this transfer window.
However, Lyon have issued a statement declaring that they won’t sell Dembele after it emerged earlier in the week that the Chelsea had made an initial £34m offer.
With that in mind, the Evening Standard claimed that the Blues have been keeping tabs on Chalov and he could be a more cost-effective alternative for Dembele.
The 21-year-old Russian forward has managed to found back of the net five times in 19 league appearences for the capital side this campaign after netting 15 goals in the previous season.
Chalov was previously wanted by both Crystal Palace and Arsenal, with the Eagles having a £23m bid turned down by CSKA in the summer meaning that Chelsea would have to splash money in order to lure the 5 ft 11 forward at Stamford Bridge in January transfer window.
