Southampton key man ruled out for Chelsea clash

Southampton will once again be without their key man Cedric Soares when they face Chelsea in the Premier League at St Marry’s stadium.

The Portugal international pulled out in the warm-up ahead of last weekend’s defeat against Tottenham Hotspur and remains sidelined with a calf problem.

The Saints attacker Che Adams could return to Hasenhuttl’s team after being dropped, while back-up stopper Alex McCarthy is available again after recovering from a calf problem. Winger Moussa Djenepo (hip) is still unavailable.

The Blues head-coach  Frank Lampard will check on the fitness of his key man N’Golo Kante who has missed the last weekend game against Brighton.

The midfielder returned to the starting XI at Champions League game against Lille on Wednesday, after an ankle injury, and Lampard will now have to decide to start him in the back to back games or rest him and have fully recovered after the international break.

The West London club remains without Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Achilles), Brazilian-born full-back Emerson Palmieri (thigh), Antonio Rudiger (groin) and Marco Van Ginkel (ACL) for the clash at St Mary’s.

Chelsea are currently seventh in the Premier League table after the seven games in the English top-tier while Southampton have only seven points and sitting 14th.
