Chelsea have confirmed Callum Hudson-Odoi has signed a new contract at the club until 2024. The 18-year-old handed in a transfer request in January and the Blues turned down three bids from Bayern Munich.
Hudson-Odoi was unhappy at a perceived lack of playing time under Maurizio Sarri and his hand was strong given he had just 18 months left on his deal at the time.
There was less than a year to run on the winger’s existing deal but Frank Lampard’s appointment was pivotal in convincing Hudson-Odoi to stay. The winger said he was ‘delighted’ to finally sign the deal and said he is looking forward to returning on the pitch.
‘It’s an amazing feeling,’ Hudson-Odoi said after signing his contract. ‘It’s been a long wait but it’s done now and I’m really happy about that. I’ve been a Chelsea player since I was eight and this is the right club for me to be at.
‘I want to lift as many trophies as possible, win as many games as possible and contribute to as many goals as I can as well. As a team, we just want to work hard to achieve the best results we can. I’m delighted everything has been agreed and now I’m just looking forward to properly getting back.’
Hudson-Odoi is currently recovering from an operation on his Achilles and he hopes to return to action in the next month.
