Frank Lampard reserved special praise for Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho after their impressive performances in the Super Cup against Liverpool, hailing their leadership qualities.
The pair played the full 120 minutes in Istanbul, with Jorginho getting on the scoresheet from the spot in extra time.
Although his team went down in a penalty shootout, with the scores tied at 2-2 after extra time, Lampard was delighted with the way his side bounced back after a disappointing 4-0 defeat in the opening game of the Premier League season.
And while he thought each and every one of his players put in a shift, he singled out left-back Emerson and central midfielder Jorginho for their efforts.
Asked to pick out the standout performer of the night, Lampard replied: ‘Well one of my players obviously. It’s a difficult one I think. I loved the performance of Jorginho for us and I loved the performance of Emerson, I thought they were both fantastic.
‘And when you think of 120 minutes for two players who played on Sunday evening, so Liverpool were fresher than us, I thought they were leaders in the team.
‘But I liked the performance of all of my players. Not one player was below par today. Everyone gave everything, the subs made an impact. So all, all of them.’
