The highly-demanded Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu is heading to RB Leipzig on loan after undergoing a medical at the German club.
The 18-year-old has just one Premier League appearance to his name and 12 for Chelsea in all competitions, despite earning eight caps for Wales already in his young career.
Blues boss Frank Lampard confirmed earlier this week that he planned to send the Welshman out on loan to gain experience and the Bundesliga club have come calling, according to Sky in Germany.
Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Swansea City were all thought to be interested in the versatile teenager, but it appears that the German club have won the race and he is likely to head to Leipzig on a season-long loan.
Ampadu was left out of Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Japan as a loan move was sorted out for him.
‘Ethan is not here as we’re looking at the possibility of him going on loan for the season,’ Lampard said on Tuesday after arriving in Japan.
‘I tried to sign Ethan on loan at Derby last year, so I’m a big fan, but with the minutes he played last year, I have to think of the bigger picture and the interests of Ethan and of Chelsea.
‘The idea that he could play a lot of games somewhere is good for him and we haven’t brought him here while that is up in the air.’ He added.
