Willian is reportedly on the verge of signing a new two-year deal at Chelsea, ending speculation linking him to a move away from Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian was tipped to follow Eden Hazard out of the exit door, with Barcelona keen to land the 30-year-old, but he has now agreed terms to extend his stay in west London.
With a transfer ban hanging over their heads, Chelsea chiefs were forced to scrap their policy of only handing one-year deals to players aged over 30 and gave David Luiz a two-year extension. And Willian is now set to receive the same, according to The Sun.
The Blues were set to risk losing him on a free at the end of next season, with Barcelona willing to test their resolve with a £30million bid in order to land him this summer.
But Chelsea are set to hang on to the attacker, which will no doubt be a welcome relief to club bosses. Chelsea are unable to splash the cash due to their transfer ban and it’s unclear who will be at the helm to manage them next season.
Maurizio Sarri has already left Chelsea for Juventus, with club legend Frank Lampard – who currently manages Derby County – the favourite to replace him.
