Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing up a move to land Bournemouth defender and reported Chelsea target Nathan Ake as a successor for Belgium international Toby Alderweireld, according to the latest reports in England.
A British tabloid newspaper the Sun is reporting that Spurs are interested in a summer deal to sign the Netherlands international but could face heavy competition from Nathan’s former club Chelsea.
The same article claims that Spurs are the frontrunners to land Ake despite his previous stint at Stamford Bridge after Bournemouth purchased the Dutch star in a cut-price £20 million deal in 2017.
Bournemouth star could command a transfer sum in the region of £40 million, following his impressive performances during the season, if the Cherries management decide to sell the 24-year-old star this summer transfer window.
The newspaper goes on to add that Nathan could be a replacement for Toby, who is being connected with a potential move to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid or struggling Premier League giants Manchester United.
Spurs finished in fourth place in England table last campaign to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the fourth successive season but so did Maurizio Sarri’s men and it will not be a decisive factor for Ake.
They lost 2-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the Champions League final to end their campaign on a disappointing note after goals from Divock Origi and Mohamed Salah sealed a win for the Merseyside heavyweights in Madrid.
Mauricio Pochettino did not sign any players in the 2018 summer transfer market but now the situation has changed.
