According to the Daily Express, Chelsea are ready to rival Manchester United in race for Real Madrid loanee and Bayern Munich playmaker James Rodriguez in this summer.
The Colombia international has spent the past two seasons out on loan at Allianz Arena, but Bayern Munich are believed to have decided against making the move permanent at the end of the season.
As things stand the 27-year-old attacking midfielder is due to return to the Santiago Bernabeu in summer, but Los Blancos head coach Zinedine Zidane reportedly is not considering him as part of his plans going forward.
Bayern do have first refusal on the Colombian until June 15, but Spanish publication Marca claims that Premier League duo Chelsea and Manchester United are plotting summer moves for the 2014 World Cup Golden Boot winner.
The former FC Porto star could be available for a cut-price fee of £36m, although Chelsea will only be able to move for him if their transfer ban is lifted.
James Rodrigues has made only 20 Bundesliga appearances this term, and he has only completed the full 90 minutes in three of those.
Alongside the Bayern Munich playmaker, the Blues are also desperately chasing for other top-class attackers with Eden Hazard almost certain to join Real Madrid this summer while Willian is closely monitored by Barcelona.
