According to the latest transfer news, the new AS Roma head coach Claudio Ranieri wants to be reunited with Chelsea out-of-favour midfielder Danny Drinkwater in Italy.
The duo had a successful time working together at Leicester City, achieving the unthinkable when the Foxes claimed a historic Premier League triumph back in 2016.
The ex-Manchester United youth academy product, who joined the Stamford Bridge giants in a £35m deal back in August 2017, is deemed surplus to requirements by Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri.
As per the reports from Calciomercato, AS Roma have already enquired about the 29-year-old midfielder’s availability following a recommendation by Ranieri. The same sources also claim that Ranieri regards Drinkwater as a potential back-up for Daniele De Rossi.
Danny Drinkwater has failed to make a competitive appearance for the Blues this season, and looks set to leave in the summer.
Meanwhile, Maurizio Sarri has identified Inter’s Matias Vecino as a potential summer signing.
The Chelsea manager is not guaranteed to be at Stamford Bridge come the end of the season with Chelsea struggling to cement a top four place in the Premier League.
And the Italian manager is said to be planning for the upcoming transfer window and has identified Uruguay international Vecino as a primary target.
