Chelsea are confident of keeping interest from Real Madrid for N’Golo Kante at bay this summer due to the midfielder’s newly-signed contract at Stamford Bridge.
The Frenchman is believed to be a target for Zinedine Zidane with Real Madrid set to undergo a huge rebuilding job this summer under the newly-appointed boss.
Zidane’s arrival is bad news for Chelsea’s hopes of hanging onto Eden Hazard and the club are now realistic about their chances of keeping the Belgian this summer, who lists the Frenchman as his football idol.
However, Chelsea feel they’re in a far stronger position to keep Kante and are convinced the midfielder will stay at the club this summer.
Kante signed a new long-term deal at Stamford Bridge earlier this season, making him the highest paid player at the club.
The Frenchman has shown no desire to move elsewhere during a difficult campaign and the club feel he’s settled in west London, according to ESPN. The same cannot be said of Hazard and Chelsea will demand upwards of £100m to let the winger move to Madrid.
Chelsea had hoped their impending transfer ban would convince Hazard to sign a new deal at the club but Zidane’s appointment is likely to swing the Belgian’s mind.
The Blues agreed a deal to sign Dortmund star Christian Pulisic in January – before their transfer ban was announced – and he will join up with the squad at the end of the season.
