Zinedine Zidane’s arrival at Real Madrid has strengthened Eden Hazard’s resolve to leave Chelsea this summer, reports say.
Real approached Chelsea about signing Hazard in the days before Zidane’s return to the club and the Belgian is set to double down on his demand to exit Stamford Bridge.
The Guardian claim Zidane’s appointment has convinced Hazard he belongs at Real playing under the coach he idolised as a youngster.
Zidane will have a £300million war chest to spend at the end of the season and is planning the addition of at least two major stars. Chelsea blocked Hazard’s attempts to join Real last summer, but did allow Thibaut Courtois to make the move to Los Blancos.
Hazard has a year left on his current deal at Chelsea and has continually dropped hints he is unwilling to sign a new long-term deal.
The playmaker has spoken openly about his desire to play for Real and Chelsea are increasingly resigned to losing him in the summer. Chelsea will demand £100m for their star man, but remain on uncertain ground given their dispute with Fifa.
The request to have Chelsea’s transfer ban frozen while an appeal is lodged was rejected by Fifa, although the club are hopeful the Court of Arbitration of Sport will overturn that ruling.
